Darfur

I couldn’t sleep last night…so I flicked channels. I came across a documentary narrated by George Clooney. Figured I would watch it, sometimes docs put me to sleep. OMG that doc did anything but that. in fact, it woke me up…in more ways than one.

What is going on in Darfur is shameful and horrendous. Our friggin president uttered the word “genocide” regarding Darfur. I have to check it all out, but I am sure that once a world leader says genocide then they must act. Yes, America sends relief efforts, but most of that comes from private organizations or citizens wanting to make a difference. We went to War to fight genocide when Hitler committed it, why on earth aren’t we doing anything?? i am opposed to war, especially the one in Iraq…but…if military force could stop the deaths, torture, and rape of the people of Darfur then we should do whatever is necessary. It is hard to think that perhaps world leaders, including our president, doesn’t care bc there isn’t an economic reason to care about Darfur…even harder to think that they don’t care bc it’s just a bunch of poor black folks. Wake the hell up!!! It’s a HUMANITY issue!! There are more genetic differences in individual people than there are between “races”. I hate that word, RACE…there is one friggin race, the HUMAN race! We are ALL the same RACE! Science has proven time and time again that the original humans came from our African brothers and sisters. Humanity began in Africa, yet, we allow humanity to be slaughtered in Africa. It’s sad, it’s shameful, and it’s pitiful.

I think everyone should read up on Darfur. I heard that if only 100 people wrote their senators and congress people from each state then it would become a political priority. So, basically, humanity is a political popularity contest? damn. So, make it popular. write, email, call. make a difference.

I am actually working on a plan to aid those in the camps in Darfur. When i get the logistics figured out, you will all know.

Do something. Ignorance is an excuse, but now you know, so you will have to live with what you do or don’t do.

Catchin up here

I can’t wait for 2008. This has been quite a year! Last post, I wanted peace and quiet…did I get it? hecky no!!!

December 2 brought us a horrible storm. The winds blew and blew for over 24 hours. The last reading before power went out was 109mph winds. Our house was shaking. The power was out for 4 days. I sure don’t know how the pioneers did it. We couldn’t leave town bc we are surrounded by water and only a couple of roads that lead out…all of the roads were closed. There was no gasoline in town bc of the power outages. A couple of stores opened up without power but there wasn’t much to get. Our laundry room was flooded and we lost a large amount of clothing and towels etc. Five kids bored was bad. We played Candy Land til i thought my eyeballs would pop out. We played every version of cards there is. I sketched. I couldnt have coffee!! well, i finally found some instant coffee at a store. I heard angels sing…i swear. lol. on the way home, happily holding my treasure of instant coffee, i realized that there was no way for me to heat the water!!! Well Duh, i remembered that I have a propane torch!!! tell ya what, that turkey heats a pan of water in 10 seconds flat! On the last night of the power outage (for us) 2 of my boys and i went for a midnight walk bc we were going stir crazy. It was so eerie!! It was so dark, so silent…except for the hum of scattered generators. We were so happy when the power finally came on again. Then it was clean up time. ugh.

I wasn’t feeling well thru it, finally, I went to the hospital. They prescribed antibiotics for a kidney infection. Days later, after taking all of the antibiotics, I felt worse. In fact, I was in total agony!! Thru tears I told sim to get me to the hospital. He knew it was bad cos A, i dont cry over pain, B. i HATE going to the doctor much less the hospital! By the time I got there, i was writhing in pain. The doc called it the “kidney stone dance”. I got a lovely I.V. of something and felt nothing after that. They did a cat scan and found the stones..sent me home to “pass them”. pass…pass sounds so easy. It was a nightmare! I never want to deal with that again, but unfortunately, if u have em once, u will probably get em again. I cut off diet coke…can’t give up coffee…and i drink gallons of water per day now, tho.

We lost a week’s income. that put a damper on Christmas. But we made it through and everyone is happy.

Now that things are calmer and i am well, i am working hard on new jewelry and bead sets.

I was accepted into SRA…Self Representing Artists!!! Just got the email today. So happy.

It’s snowing!!! well that just doesn’t happen much on the Washington coast! It’s not sticking yet. I hope it does. I miss heavy snowfall that we had in Indiana.

ooo wait, scratch that comment …. i need to travel to Frantz glass tomorrow and the road is a twisting turning road…don’t want too much snow…i need glass!!!!! i love glass!!!! i am addicted. lol.

speaking of addiction…heeeheee….i am addicted to the video game that we got the kids…Guitar Hero III. lol!!! the kids are impressed and bragging to their friends about how their mom can rock it. lol!!! Rico is the best at it, running a close second is Jordan, then me, then Tahj, then Tashi (she is so cute playing it cos she does this little knee bending booty shaking dance when she plays the guitar lol), then Myhles, and lastly…poor Sim. lol he gets in this rocker stance, looks good but can’t hit a note to save his butt. lmbo!! We called stores all over yesterday looking for Guitar Hero II bc it has some songs i like. nobody has it tho. sigh. The kids and I stayed up til 4am Christmas night playing it. lol!! rock on dudes and dudettes! til next time,

hugz and lots of peace
